Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Cytotechnologist to join our team at Altru Health. As a Cytotechnologist, you will play a critical role in detecting, differentiating, and diagnosing the presence or absence of disease in gynecological and non-gynecological samples.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform microscopic examination on gynecological and non-gynecological specimens, differentiating and identifying all cells on the slides using established cytologic criteria.
  • Detect, select, and clearly mark cells most representative of pathological processes present and prepare a provisional diagnosis for all gynecological and non-gynecological cases referred to the cytology supervisor or pathologist.
  • Interpret acceptability of specimens received for testing, communicate correct specimen collection, transport requirements, and specimen unacceptability issues to appropriate caregivers in a timely manner, ensuring that documentation is completed according to standard operating procedure.
  • Assist in the collection of Fine Needle Aspirates following standard operating procedure.
  • Exercise initiative and judgment in investigating, troubleshooting, and resolving QC failure, inform next level of authority as necessary, and document all action taken.
  • Prepare a final diagnosis using established cytologic terminology for gynecologic specimens reported as within normal limits.
  • Perform accessioning, routine staining, and coverslipping of cytologic slides.
  • Maintain clear and concise specimen identification throughout the entire analytical process.
Requirements
  • Cytotechnologist (CT) certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) within 12 months of start date.
  • Meet CLIA education and experience standards for Cytotechnologist.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A minimum of 1 year of related experience.
Working Conditions

This position requires occasional standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, and handling/finger/feel activities. The employee must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing less than 10 pounds. The work environment is primarily indoor with occasional exposure to extreme temperatures.

Driving Requirement

This position requires an infrequent driver.
