Job Summary:

The purpose of this position is to support the medical health of our community's animals by serving in a lead role in the day-to-day operation of the animal shelter, coordinating and/or performing supportive tasks for surgical operations, providing customer service to citizens in correspondence with the clinic, and collaborating with and completing administrative duties as assigned by the Staff Veterinarian and Director to lead the Medical Department.

  • Coordinates veterinary staff for and/or assists with spay/neuter surgeries; sedates and prepares animals for surgery, monitors animals' general health and vital signs during procedures and while recuperating.
  • Assists with supervising employees by assigning schedule and work duties, monitoring work tasks, and providing counsel to employees as needed.
  • Serves as lead trainer for new employees and oversees volunteers when needed.
  • Coordinates veterinary staff and/or performs humane euthanasia of animals when needed for reasons including medical, behavior, and space.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) equivalent, customer service experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Preferred qualifications include three (3) years of experience in animal care, medical, leadership, and/or a related field, experience with customer service, and experience handling cash.

This position has responsibilities that require exerting up to lbs. occasionally, 25-50 lbs. frequently, or up to 10-20 constantly. Ability to assist guests with the adoption process, thoroughly clean, work effectively under stressful conditions, and process information rapidly and accurately. Licenses and certifications include a valid State of Texas Class C driver's license and euthanasia certification.
