Position Summary
We are seeking a Bioassay Scientist to provide essential scientific and technical support for our initiatives in the Marshall Islands. This program aims to understand the long-term effects of fallout radionuclides in coral atoll ecosystems, evaluate human exposure levels, and enhance radiological safety measures in the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of the Whole Body Counting (WBC) and Indirect Radio-Bioassay Programs.
- Conduct thorough quality assurance assessments of WBC data and maintain accurate personnel records.
- Ensure compliance with Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols for the WBC program.
- Develop and manage database systems, validate dose calculations, and distribute Individual Dose Reports (IDRs).
- Provide mentorship and training to local technicians and students, creating procedural documentation in both English and Marshallese.
- Support the maintenance and operation of radiometric counting systems, ensuring adherence to quality assurance standards.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to improve procedures and communication tools for program implementation.
- Contribute to scientific reports, publications, and online resources.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in environmental science, chemistry, physics, or biology, or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of 4 years of experience with APEX and/or ABACOS 2000 Whole Body Counting software.
- Fluency in written and spoken English and Marshallese.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Basic understanding of health physics and the environmental behavior of cesium-137.
- Familiarity with database management and structures.
Additional Information
This position offers a competitive salary range of $132,810 - $170,556 annually, with various benefits including flexible schedules, education reimbursement, and relocation assistance.
