DEPARTMENTAL SUMMARY:
The Pharmacy Department provides a comprehensive range of inpatient and outpatient pharmaceutical care services to ensure safe and effective medication management.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Pharmacy Intern will engage in a variety of technical and clinical support functions, adhering to established state and federal regulations while following the policies of the organization. This role does not involve direct management of other staff members.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:
1. Operate under the guidance of a pharmacist in designated areas such as hospital, retail, or outpatient settings.
2. Uphold the values of Accountability, Caring, and Teamwork.
3. Manage medication procurement and distribution.
4. Compound sterile and non-sterile preparations, including handling chemotherapy and hazardous materials.
5. Conduct accurate product selection, dosage calculations, and compounding of medications using manufacturer literature and procedural guidelines.
6. Engage in medication therapy management.
7. Provide medication education to patients.
8. Mentor and educate peers. Conduct patient medication histories, assess compliance, and communicate with healthcare providers.
9. Perform drug utilization reviews.
10. Support the organization's vision, mission, and values in all activities.
11. Advocate for continuous improvement principles and serve as a change champion.
12. Ensure a safe environment for staff, patients, and visitors.
13. Conduct all activities with professionalism and confidentiality.
14. Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures, supporting corporate integrity efforts by acting ethically and reporting any known or suspected violations.
15. Deliver customer service and patient care in a manner that promotes goodwill, ensuring timely, efficient, and accurate service. May perform additional duties of similar complexity as required.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Intermediate to advanced math skills are required for analysis and data manipulation.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:

COMPUTER SKILLS:
Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Access), database management, and document preparation is necessary.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Continually (75% or more): Standing, walking, carrying 1-10 pounds, operation of motor vehicle (courier). Frequently (50%): Lifting 1-10 pounds, pushing/pulling 1-25 pounds, grasping/squeezing.
Occasionally (25%): Sitting, bending, climbing stairs, lifting/carrying 11-25 pounds, using a clear and audible speaking voice and the ability to hear normal speech levels.
