Chief Physician of Perioperative Services

The Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a dedicated Chief Physician for the Perioperative Section. This role is essential in leading the newly established section of perioperative medicine within the Surgical Service.
Key Responsibilities
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
1. Overseeing the evaluation and treatment of patients at the perioperative outpatient clinic, focusing on those scheduled for surgical procedures.
2. Developing and implementing innovative strategies for assessing risks associated with geriatric and surgical patients.
3. Recommending and prescribing medical optimization strategies based on measurable metrics and risk assessments.
4. Collaborating with nurse practitioners and physician assistants to provide necessary medical expertise.
5. Directing clinic activities related to medical optimization and ensuring continuity of care for surgical patients.
6. Engaging Veterans and their families in medical decision-making processes, ensuring their input is valued.
7. Participating in multidisciplinary discussions with various medical professionals to guarantee comprehensive care for surgical patients.
8. Educating patients and caregivers on perioperative guidelines and limitations.
9. Documenting all findings and treatment plans in the electronic health record system.
10. Monitoring quality metrics, including readmission rates and complications, in collaboration with the Chief of Surgery.
