POSITION SUMMARY
The Sleep Technologist operates under the guidance of the Sleep Center Director, providing a thorough assessment of sleep-related disorders. This includes conducting both in-center and home sleep apnea evaluations, implementing diagnostic and therapeutic measures, and delivering comprehensive patient care along with education.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain professional identification and greet patients courteously, addressing inquiries effectively.
- Ensure the upkeep and inventory of sleep study equipment.
- Conduct routine maintenance and assess equipment functionality.
- Educate patients regarding procedural protocols based on established Sleep Center guidelines.
- Analyze and review sleep studies, offering constructive feedback to colleagues.
- Comply with all Sleep Center policies and participate in quality assurance initiatives.
- Perform additional assigned duties as necessary.
Preparation and Setup for Sleep Studies
- Gather and evaluate patient information to tailor the study to individual needs.
- Collaborate with the ordering physician to finalize testing parameters.
- Verify patient history and medical orders prior to the study.
- Confirm patient identity and obtain necessary consent upon arrival.
- Explain the testing process to patients, ensuring they are well-informed.
- Select and calibrate equipment to ensure optimal functionality.
- Apply electrodes and sensors in accordance with industry standards.
- Facilitate positive airway pressure (PAP) fitting and acclimatization.
Conducting Sleep Studies
- Adhere to established protocols for various sleep studies, including PSG and MSLT.
- Perform necessary calibrations to guarantee accurate physiological readings.
- Document baseline values and monitor study quality throughout the process.
- Record observations and significant events to assist in the interpretation of results.
- Implement interventions to ensure patient safety and effective treatment.
- Complete data collection processes and verify the integrity of gathered information.
- Score sleep stages and clinical events following professional guidelines.
- Generate detailed reports summarizing sleep data and clinical events.
- Prepare portable monitoring equipment for home studies and provide patient education.
- Ensure compliance with cleaning and safety protocols.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
