Overview:

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for assessing, implementing or delegating, planning, and evaluating comprehensive nursing care while adhering to established philosophies. This role involves providing and directing patient care for a designated group of patients.

The RN effectively collaborates with other shifts and departments to ensure optimal continuity of care. Additionally, the RN offers clinical supervision to entry-level nurses and supports their professional development.

CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital - Westover Hills (CSRH-WH) is a 150-bed facility catering to the rapidly expanding region of San Antonio.

Specialized services encompass orthopedic and surgical care, intensive care unit (ICU), women's health services, a newborn nursery, comprehensive cardiovascular care from diagnostics to open-heart surgery, vascular lab, sleep center, emergency services, the CHRISTUS Weight Loss Institute, wound care, rehabilitation, and more.

The campus also features an Outpatient Imaging Center and three medical plazas, one of which hosts the CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Family Medicine Residency Program and the CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Family Health Center.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Meets the expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  • In alignment with the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, delivers nursing care utilizing the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients.
  • Addresses complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families according to their level of practice.
  • Administers medications and treatments following appropriate protocols; monitors for side effects and the effectiveness of prescribed treatments.
  • Documents patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided.
  • Assesses learning needs and provides education to patients, family members, and/or caregivers; identifies issues and resources.
  • Employs critical thinking skills to evaluate the basic physical, psychosocial, social, cultural, spiritual, and developmental needs of patients and families.
  • Communicates findings to relevant healthcare team members.
  • Develops and utilizes a specific plan of care, modifying it to meet individual patient needs based on evidence-based practices.
  • Implements patient care and therapeutic procedures; monitors and documents treatment progression and educational goals.
  • Evaluates the care and treatments provided to patients and their responses.
  • Conducts timely reassessments and documentation.
  • Anticipates and plans for admission, discharge, and transfer needs to facilitate patient flow.
  • Utilizes appropriate communication systems and tools to streamline the discharge process.
  • Coaches on techniques for verifying and validating orders to ensure accuracy.

Qualifications:

Experience:

Preferred candidates will have completed a Perinatal RN Residency or have recent experience in a Perinatal Setting. A minimum of one year of experience in the relevant nursing specialty is preferred.


Education:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.
All newly hired experienced RNs must attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of employment.

New hires will be precepted by a designated trained staff member, and initial onboarding requirements will be validated through successful completion of the designated organizational entry competency validation and a Perinatal Department-specific competency validation.

Completion of all annual competency verification requirements is mandatory.

Licenses/Certifications:


Must possess an RN License in the state of employment or compact. BLS certification is required. Current STABLE (Post-resuscitation/Pre-transport Stabilization Care of Sick Infants) certification is required at the time of hire for experienced nurses; within four months of hire for new graduates and experienced nurses new to the specialty, with ongoing maintenance of course certification thereafter.

Current NRP certification is required at the time of hire for experienced nurses; within 60 days for new graduates and experienced nurses new to the specialty, with ongoing maintenance of certification thereafter.


Current ACLS certification is preferred.
