Experience RequirementsCandidates must possess a minimum of 1 year of RN experience; this position is not suitable for new graduates. The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at James and Connie Maynard Hospital features a 12-bed intensive care unit. The ideal staffing ratio is 1:1 or 1:2, depending on patient acuity.
Our patient demographic includes those facing actual or potential respiratory failure, severe or unstable cardiovascular conditions, neurological disorders, critical metabolic disturbances, sepsis/poisonings, critically injured pediatric trauma patients, hematologic or oncologic diseases with life-threatening complications, and patients requiring ECMO or CRRT.
At the James and Connie Maynard Children's Hospital, we are dedicated to providing care for the children of eastern North Carolina.
As the region's sole Children's Hospital, this facility encompasses a total of 197 beds and bassinets, including a Level IV NICU, a specialized PICU with ECMO capabilities, a dedicated Pediatric Emergency Department, and a specialized critical-care transport team.

Position ResponsibilitiesUp to $30K in Commitment Incentive.
Responsible for delivering care in accordance with the North Carolina Board of Nursing-Nurse Practice Act, American Nurses Association Standards of Practice, and other standards established by professional groups and regulatory bodies.
Nursing care will be provided in alignment with ECU Health and entity-specific nursing policies, procedures, and professional standards of care/practice.
Accountable for the provision and coordination of nursing care, including the collection and analysis of assessment data, identification of expected outcomes, and development of a care plan in collaboration with the patient/family and other interdisciplinary team members.
Identifies interventions to achieve expected outcomes, implements the interventions outlined in the care plan, evaluates the progress of the patient/family toward achieving outcomes, and documents the process.
This care includes sensitivity to the age-specific and unique needs of the patient/family. Promotes and evaluates the effective functioning of the healthcare team. Collaborates with healthcare team members to meet the identified needs of the patient/family throughout the care episode. Delegates tasks and activities as appropriate and governed by the NC Nurse Practice Act.
Minimum QualificationsA Bachelor's Degree is preferred. A minimum of 1 year of experience is required, with preferred experience in Pediatrics, ICU, and Emergency Room settings.
A current NC RN license or licensure to practice in a participating Nurse Licensure Compact state is required.
Basic Life Support certification is mandatory.
Clinical Ladder and Additional InformationPosition: 0.9 FTE (3) 12-hour shifts / rotating shifts.
