Job Summary

The Rail and Export Logistics Coordinator plays a crucial role in managing the supply of rail equipment, delivering rail shipments to customers, and export documentation. This position works in coordination with each Collins facility and provides support to Sales and other Logistics Coordinators.

Key Responsibilities
  • Rail Car Management: Manage rail car orders and shipments to ensure adequate supply and timely delivery.
  • Customer Service: Provide customer service and respond to inquiries or complaints regarding rail transportation services.
  • Rail Service Monitoring: Monitor and track rail service and shipments and report on performance.
  • Rail Freight Management: Maintain and negotiate rail freight rates and fuel surcharges. Receive Logistics Manager approval for negotiated rates.
  • Tariff Updates: Monitor rail tariffs for updates and implement changes.
  • Route Optimization: Define rail routes for optimal service and cost.
  • Demurrage and Dispute Management: Manage demurrage and dispute freight bills as needed.
  • Support Functions: Provide backup support for sales and truck logistics.
  • Export Documentation: Manage the documentation of exported product by coordinating with Export sales and shipping to ensure compliance with customer orders, working with freight forwarders as needed to ensure documentation accuracy, preparing, acquiring, and distributing necessary export documents, processing export invoicing and monitoring payments.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working directly with railroads / car supply, rail rates and routes.
  • Understanding of rail operations and negotiating rates.
  • Experience with export documentation and understanding of container shipping.
  • Ability to plan and adapt as priorities and issues change.

  • Strong attention to detail with strong problem-solving skills, a high degree of accuracy and efficiency.
  • Ability to think logically and analytically, under quick timelines to meet the needs of the organization.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in business or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in transportation or logistics. Export and railroad experience preferred.
  • Experience utilizing inventory management software preferred.
  • Background in lumber products preferred.
  • Knowledge of rail carrier systems or LumberTrack preferred.
