Job Summary:We are seeking a highly motivated and organized student to assist with outreach activities and events on and off-campus. As a Federal Work Study Assistant, you will provide general support and assistance to faculty, staff, and students during class/lab activities.
Responsibilities:- Assist with individual and group campus tours
- Support staff coverage at mall outreach booths
- Help prospective students with inquiries at outreach events
- Assist with navigating opportunities available on campus
- Staff outreach booths and college fairs at local feeder high schools and community events
- Pass out information about and answer questions about the college's admissions process
- Ambassadors will be required to do some traveling off campus
- Other duties as assigned
- Student must have a Federal Work Study award letter for the 2024/2025 academic year
- Students must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)
- Student cannot fall below half-time (6+ units) during their employment under the FWS program
- Student must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 units
- Minimum of 2.5 GPA and 12 units of college coursework (ESL courses and basic courses can apply), have an educational plan on file, and be in good academic standing
- Student must have a current TB
- Prior to being hired, candidates must complete live scan (fingerprinting)
- Ability to follow directions in order to carry out the duties as assigned
- Familiarity with various equipment/tools used in the program and/or have completed some courses in the specific program or related fields
- Must be available to work evenings and weekends
- Prior leadership and/or community service experience, demonstrated skills in interpersonal communication, and the ability to effectively relate with people of diverse cultural, social, and educational backgrounds
- Must be comfortable with public speaking, working with children, and representing San Bernardino Valley College to the community

Environment: Work is performed primarily in a standard office setting.
Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to occasionally lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight up to 25 pounds; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents; and to operate assigned equipment.
Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
Employment Requirements:- Submit to and successfully pass DOJ live scan/fingerprinting. Cost of live-scan services to be borne by candidate.
- Sealed official transcript(s) in envelope from institution or electronic copies emailed directly from institution (for positions with higher education requirement)
- Tuberculosis (TB) risk assessment
- Other pre-employment requirements may be required depending on the position (i.e. certifications or licenses; see job posting qualifications section for details)
Successful completion of all pre-employment requirements is mandatory to be eligible for employment. These requirements are in accordance with the San Bernardino Community College District's policies and procedures.
This position is not eligible for full-time benefits.
