Job Description:
The Medical Support Specialist will report to the Nurse Manager and play a vital role in ensuring patients receive excellent care. Responsibilities include providing information, services, and assistance to patients, securing medical records, maintaining medical supplies inventory, and performing preventive maintenance to keep equipment operating. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma, medical assistant certification or equivalent experience, and be able to type 40+ wpm with experience in healthcare software.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Verify patient information by interviewing patient; recording medical history; confirming purpose of visit.
  • Prepare patients for examination by performing preliminary physical tests; taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature; reporting patient history summary or abnormal findings to providers.
  • Prioritize infection control practices; use sterile technique as appropriate.
  • Will be required to draw and collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Prepare treatment rooms for examination of patients; ensure disinfection and cleanliness between patient visits.
  • Safeguard patient information and maintain patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records; completing diagnostic coding and procedure coding; keeping patient information confidential.
  • Reinforce physician's orders and answer questions regarding visit.
  • Contribute to a safe, secure, positive attitude, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations.
  • Keep equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; reporting need for repairs.

Requirements:
Able to float to all locations on an as-needed basis. Requires a high school diploma, medical assistant certificate or equivalent experience, ability to type 40+ wpm, and experience with healthcare software. Phlebotomy license preferred. Experience in HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C, and chronic diseases care/management also preferred. Must have diplomacy and tact in handling difficult and irate patients and be able to work effectively with men and transgender women of diverse races, ethnicities, ages, and sexual orientation in a multicultural environment.
