Starting Pay: $14.00
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Lead Counselor is responsible for overseeing a group of children in a seasonal day camp and/or afterschool program. This role is focused on delivering a positive experience for both children and their families, aligned with the core values of the YMCA: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES:
- Collaborate with the Program Director to create program activities that are culturally relevant and developmentally suitable.
- Act as a supervisor and Co-Lead Counselor, providing support to childcare staff.
- Ensure adherence to program standards, including safety and cleanliness protocols.
- Organize and lead staff meetings and training sessions.
- Educate staff on risk management policies and procedures, including medical and disciplinary issues, child abuse prevention, and emergency protocols.
- Exemplify relationship-building skills in all interactions, particularly with parents.
- Embrace and demonstrate the YMCA's core values while addressing community needs.
- Deliver a high-quality experience to children and parents by planning and executing program activities that reflect the YMCA's core values.
- Adapt quickly to unexpected situations to meet the needs of participants.
- Maintain constructive relationships with parents and staff by fostering understanding and remaining composed in challenging situations.
- Communicate any concerns or suggestions regarding the program, facility, staff, participants, and parents with the Family Program Director.
- Contact parents regarding participant issues, attendance, and account balances.
- Maintain participant records, including emergency contacts and special needs information.
- Assist with participant registration for programs and memberships, demonstrating knowledge of all offerings.
- Perform other assigned duties as needed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Carrying, Kneeling, Pushing, Sitting, Climbing, Lifting (minimum 25 lbs), Running, Stooping, Crouching, Pulling, Standing, Walking.
MISSION ADVANCEMENT: Demonstrates a commitment to the YMCA's values and a desire to serve the community. Recruits and builds effective relationships with volunteers and supports fundraising efforts.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
- Prior experience working with children, ideally in a day camp environment.
- Experience in areas such as outdoor living, archery, boating, camping, music, sports, aquatics, and recreational games is preferred.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- CPR, First Aid, AED certifications, and Child Abuse Prevention training required within 30 days of hire.
- Completion of all mandatory online courses prior to the first day of work.
- Experience with diverse populations is preferred.
EDUCATION:
High School diploma or equivalent.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Proficient in the Windows environment, particularly in Word and Excel.
