Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a skilled Bridge Maintenance Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our infrastructure maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our bridges and structures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on bridges and structures to ensure safe and efficient operation
  • Operate and maintain heavy equipment, such as cranes and excavators, to perform repairs and maintenance
  • Conduct inspections of bridges and structures to identify potential issues and develop repair plans
  • Collaborate with other team members to ensure effective communication and coordination of maintenance activities
  • Develop and implement safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment

Requirements

  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor and work at heights
  • Knowledge of highway and bridge maintenance methods, equipment, and safety practices
  • Experience with light to medium-duty equipment and hand and power tools
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations to measure and lay out constructed elements
  • Valid Commercial Drivers License with appropriate endorsements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in carpentry, building forms and false works, and concrete placement and finishing
  • Experience with bridge maintenance or construction
  • Valid Certified Crane Operator with appropriate endorsements
  • Experience fabricating or welding steel components

Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities. The successful candidate will be required to work outdoors in various weather conditions and may be required to work overtime during emergency operations.
