  • Underwriting Decisions: Evaluate new and renewal business submissions, making sound underwriting decisions within delegated authority for both admitted and surplus lines products.
  • Market Analysis: Analyze market trends and conditions to inform underwriting strategies and recommend product adjustments as needed.
  • Relationship Building: Develop and maintain strong business relationships with key wholesalers, agents, and brokers to drive new business opportunities and retention.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with other departments, including marketing, claims, and operations, to develop and implement effective rate and pricing strategies.
  • Process Improvement: Lead cross-functional projects to enhance underwriting processes, product offerings, and customer experience.
  • Compliance: Ensure underwriting practices comply with company standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Reporting: Prepare detailed reports and presentations on underwriting decisions, market conditions, and portfolio performance for senior management review.
  • Professional Development: Stay current with industry trends, competitive intelligence, and emerging risks to continuously improve underwriting effectiveness and innovation.
Requirements:
  • Experience: Minimum of five years of commercial P&C underwriting experience, with a strong focus on commercial property, general liability, and BOP/CPP.
  • Leadership: Proven leadership experience in managing and developing a team of underwriters.
  • Designations: Achievement of professional designations such as CPCU, CIC, or equivalent, with a commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Communication: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong customer service orientation.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
  • Decision-Making: Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with a demonstrated ability to drive profitable underwriting results.
