Job Title: Dental/Clinic Assistant

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Dental/Clinic Assistant to join our team at the University of the Pacific. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide exceptional patient care and support to our students and faculty in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist students and faculty in all clinical aspects of patient care and treatment
  • Coordinate care in collaboration with other healthcare professionals and Navigation Center personnel
  • Answer telephone and retrieve messages from voicemail; schedule patient appointments using the electronic health record system
  • Confirm insurance and eligibility, collect information required for referrals
  • Perform chairside assistant duties for faculty and students, including four-handed dentistry
  • Provide information regarding policies/procedures as they relate to scheduling, dental treatment, and available resources
  • Work with Clinic Director and Navigation Center personnel to order supplies; clean and maintain dental/hospital inventory and equipment
  • Sterilize dental instruments and maintain strict infection control standards
  • Assist with and conduct Navigation Center and community public relations projects

Requirements:

  • Minimum of one year increasing responsibility in a dental office or dental school
  • Chairside dental assisting experience
  • Knowledge of dental terminology and treatments, dental insurance billing procedures, and scheduling and care coordination in an inter-disciplinary environment
  • Current California Radiation Safety Certification and California Board-approved courses in the California Dental Practice Act and infection control
  • ASHI, AHA, or ARC-approved course in BLS or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Medi-Cal billing and using an electronic health record
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff, patients, and other healthcare providers
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain professional composure and demeanor

Working Conditions:

This is a full-time position, five days a week, eight hours a day. The location will be at the Redwood City Navigation Center and occasionally at the neighboring Maple Street Correctional Center (MSCC). Travel to the dental school may be required for calibration, cross-training, and other special events.

Salary Range: $23.10 - $34.36 per hour
