Skillful Backend Engineer Wanted

We are seeking a skilled Senior Server Engineer to join our team at Comcast Corporation, working on the development of our cutting-edge streaming media platform. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and implementing microservices that power our industry-leading Free Ad-Supported Streaming Television service, available on various platforms.

Xumo, a joint venture between Comcast and Charter, is dedicated to developing and offering a next-generation streaming platform on different branded 4K streaming devices and smart TVs. With access to Comcast's global technology platform, Xumo devices and services feature an entertainment experience designed to make it easy for consumers to find and enjoy their favorite streaming content through a world-class user interface and voice search, and for partners to meaningfully connect and engage with millions of consumers.

Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate closely with other development teams, product management, and QA to assess product requirements, evaluate their impact, and propose detailed technical solutions.
  • Work as part of the backend development team, following an Agile/Scrum process.
  • Develop and implement high-throughput web service endpoints ensuring internal and external client applications access the XUMO content libraries efficiently.
  • Design and develop media and metadata content ingestion systems, integration with proprietary video encoding services, recommendation systems, large-scale batch data exporting processes, and research & development activities.
Requirements:

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience with Java, including JEE and/or Spring, Spring Boot.
  • 5+ years of database expertise in SQL (e.g., MySQL) and NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB).
  • Experience with Kubernetes (GKE/EKS) and working with Docker containers.
  • Experience with message queuing services such as RabbitMQ and Kafka.
  • Familiarity with cloud services (Google Cloud/Amazon Web Services).
  • Development of RESTful web services.
  • Proficiency in data structures, memory optimization, and code performance techniques.
  • Experience with data representation formats such as JSON and XML.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience with data streaming pipelines (e.g., Apache Flink, Spark, Akka).
  • Experience with services utilizing content delivery networks (CDNs).
  • Knowledge of video encoding and streaming technologies.
  • Experience with batch processing (e.g., Spring Batch).
  • Familiarity with microservice architecture.

Compensation

The estimated salary range for this position is $139,015.07 - $208,522.61. This amount is based on factors such as location, experience, and qualifications. Education and Experience

A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred, but not required.
