Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Transportation Planner to join our team at SunLine Transit Agency. As a key member of our planning department, you will be responsible for conducting research and analysis related to public transportation, assisting with the investigation of transportation issues, and developing alternative transportation solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research and analysis related to public transportation
  • Assist with the investigation of transportation issues, potential strategies, and measures
  • Develop alternative transportation solutions utilizing scenario planning
  • Prepare various reports and research for public meetings, committees, executives, and board members
  • Assist with the development of SunLine's short-range transportation plan
  • Assist with agency strategic planning
  • Provide technical writing, National Transit Database reporting, and Federal Transit Administration compliance
  • Assist with planning Mobility services, including microtransit, micromobility, and Mobility-As-A-Service (MaaS)
  • Conduct Excel data entry, cleaning, and advanced data sorting, reporting, and manipulation functions
  • Perform analysis on ridership and provide information and monthly summary/ad hoc reports as required
  • Assist in design, implementation, and evaluation of passenger or public surveys and participate in public processes and workshops with local officials, agencies, jurisdictions, groups, and the public to advance transit projects and programs
  • Participate in community meetings and activities that may impact public transportation
  • Analyze traffic and operating conditions, passenger loads, Automatic Passenger Count (APC), and Automatic Vehicle Locator (AVL) data
  • Assemble related statistical data and compile reports
  • Maintain data related to agency key performance indicators (KPIs)
Requirements
  • Computer literate
  • Good writing, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to read, understand, and apply agency policies and regulations
  • Ability to speak clearly, distinctly, and effectively in person-to-person or small group situations using tact and diplomacy
  • Ability to establish and maintain priorities in order to complete assignments by deadlines without detailed instructions
  • Knowledge of ArcGIS or QGIS
  • Knowledge of SketchUp preferred
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Economics, or closely related field
  • Experience in transportation planning with a working knowledge of GIS can be substituted for education requirements
