Nuclear Medicine Technologist Specialist

Humboldt Park Health seeks a skilled Nuclear Medicine Technologist Specialist to join our team. This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication abilities.
About the RoleThis Nuclear Medicine Technologist Specialist will be responsible for performing routine nuclear medicine procedures, ensuring accurate patient positioning, selecting appropriate techniques, administering radiopharmaceuticals, and maintaining safe radiation practices in accordance with department policy and licensure requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Procedure Performance: Performs all routine nuclear medicine procedures, demonstrating anatomy investigation through proper patient positioning, technique selection, administration of radiopharmaceuticals, application of immobilization, and safe radiation practices in accordance with department policy and licensure requirements.
- Radiopharmaceutical Administration: Determines and orders appropriate radiopharmaceutical required and administers dosage according to protocol, obtains patient history, reviews patient condition, and records dosage administered.
- Patient Interaction: Checks consultation requests for special instructions from requesting physicians, consults with radiologists as necessary, greets patients confirming patient identification and introducing self, confirms procedure site and referring physician orders with patients, and explains examination procedures to patients and family members if present.
- Documentation: Updates patient history including completion of screening and consent forms as required, documents examination time, room number, and technical factors, and enters information into hospital information systems.
- Posting Procedure Charges: Ensures accurate and prompt posting of procedure charges into hospital information systems according to department policy and procedures.
- Quality Control: Performs and records results of dose calibrations and surveys as required and assists physicists to ensure compliance with IEMA license requirements if radioactive materials are involved.
- Safety Inspection: Performs visual preventative safety inspection, completes system warm-up procedure as required, records quality control activities, reports dangerous conditions, and/or equipment malfunction to appropriate personnel.
- Supportive Roles: Assists in interventional procedures as required, practices sterile and infection control techniques, maintains necessary inventory levels for assigned rooms or workstations, rotates stock in an orderly fashion, eliminates outdated items, keeps work areas clean and prepared with necessary supplies, and maintains all records required by policy or State and Federal Regulations related to ordering, receiving, storing, administering, and handling radioactive materials and supplies.
- Regulatory Compliance: Works with management and radiation physicists to ensure compliance with required regulatory requirements of radioactive material licenses.
- Patient Screening: Ensures that patient screening procedures and forms are performed in an appropriate manner and reviewed and approved by either the pharmacy or a radiologist.
- Estimated salary range: $65,000 - $90,000 per year depending on location and experience.
- Strong understanding of nuclear medicine principles, procedures, and best practices.
