Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our team at Personalcare Registered Professional Nursing, P.C. as a Correctional Healthcare Specialist. This is a part-time position that requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team to provide high-quality patient care in a fast-paced correctional healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and evaluate nursing care in accordance with established standards and protocols.
  • Assess and provide comprehensive treatment care to patients, observing and maintaining security requirements.
  • Monitor treatment services to avoid inappropriate use and/or duplication of services, and advise Health Services Administrator and Nurse Supervisor as needed.
  • Recommend methods to improve operational efficiency and cost containment effectiveness.
  • Assist Health Services Administrator or Nurse Supervisor to coordinate and/or conduct monthly health care staff meetings, as assigned.
  • Provide other services and perform other duties as assigned by Nurse Supervisor, Health Services Administrator, head nurse, or corporate staff.
  • Maintain accurate records of all controlled substances, narcotics, and sharps in accordance with applicable state and federal laws.
  • Provide health counseling to patients.
  • Conduct sick call for inmate/patients and provide provisional diagnosis and treatment for selected minor illnesses and injuries defined by written protocol and approved by the Director.
  • Observe, report, and document symptoms, reactions, and progress of inmate/patients, and participate in the formulation of the plan of nursing care.
  • Implement treatment care plans that promote, maintain, and restore the well-being of inmate/patients.
  • At a minimum of every shift, take vital signs, conduct a complete assessment, and document findings on dispensary care of all inmates/patients housed in the medical unit and/or mental health unit.
Requirements
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of New York.
  • Clinical decision-making ability is required and critical to have.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to function independently and demonstrate clinical competency.
  • Ability to gain trust of patients and build a working relationship.
  • Previous education and experience may be substituted in many cases.
  • Experience in healthcare delivery systems is a plus.
