Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Physician Leader to join our team at Memorial Hermann Health System. As a Supervisor Physician, Hospital Medicine, you will be responsible for providing medical expertise and oversight of care to patients within our healthcare system.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend and actively participate in hospital multidisciplinary rounds to ensure high-quality patient care.
- Cover Code Blue and Rapid Responses in accordance with campus protocols.
- Provide admission services for the Emergency Department, incoming transfer patients, and direct or emergent admissions.
- Provide co-management services for subspecialty services within the scope and designation of privileges.
- Provide consultative services for members of the Medical Staff within the scope and designation of privileges.
- Accept transfers of care from other clinical service lines with proper physician-to-physician handoff communication.
- Provide timely evaluation of patients admitted to the hospital in accordance with Medical Executive Committee bylaws.
- Abide by and conform to Hospital tenants, guidelines, and bylaws.
- Provide physician-to-physician sign out for patients transitioning to post-acute facilities.
- Document History and Physicals within 12 hours and Discharge Summaries within 48 hours of discharge order.
- Maintain current understanding of the regulatory environment related to status and status patients consistent with national guidelines.
- Provide post-discharge coverage for appropriate home health orders for up to 2 weeks or until they have seen their primary care physicians.
- Encourage in-network utilization of resources for continuity of care unless specified by the patient or expertise is not available in the system.
- Respond in a timely manner to pages and call backs from nursing staff unless doing so would impact patient safety or experience.
- In case of emergencies or disaster, provide additional coverage per campus protocol.
- Participate in continuing education activities to maintain or enhance knowledge and skills.
- Maintain ACLS certification.
- Direct patient care throughout the healthcare system via Consult Orders.
- Provide consultation services in collaboration with attending or primary care providers.
- Communicate effectively with treatment teams in a timely and professional manner to provide quality patient care.
- Comply with best practices and other care directives.
- Follow Performance Improvement initiatives.
- Work with Memorial Hermann Physicians, Risk Managers, and Case Managers towards resolution of clinical, administrative, or technical problems.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to MH compliance privacy policies.
- Ensure safe care to patients, staff, and visitors; adhere to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications.
- Promote individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency.
- Support department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization.
- Serve as a preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
