LOCATION: Lancaster, PA
HOURS: Part Time (24 hours per week). Night Shift (7pm-7am) with potential for evening shift (3pm-3am). Combination of 4, 8, and 12 hour shifts. Rotating weekends and holidays.
SIGN ON BONUS: Up to $15,000 (prorated based on FTE), with a 2-year commitment. Eligibility criteria apply, including 15 months or more of RN experience. External applicants only.
Unit Overview: 8 North is an 18-bed Medical-Surgical unit equipped with Telemetry and elopement technology, providing care for patients with diverse medical conditions. Our primary focus is on infectious diseases and the care of older adult patients with medical needs, along with some general surgery patients. We employ a multidisciplinary approach to care delivery.
ROLE SUMMARY: The Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague is an RN who acts as a full partner within the healthcare team, consistently demonstrating safe practice in accordance with the American Nurses Association standards of nursing practice.
The Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague possesses the requisite knowledge, skills, and attitude to meet the standards for competent professional nursing practice. This role involves independently providing patient care through the application of the nursing process while accepting accountability for the nursing care of assigned patients, who may range from infants to the elderly.
The Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague exemplifies the competency domains of Continuous Quality Improvement, Evidence-Based Practice and Research, Leadership, Person and Family Centered Care, Professionalism, Safety, Technology/Informatics, and Teamwork.
The Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague collaborates closely with the interprofessional healthcare team to facilitate the coordination of care across the continuum. The nurse focuses on enhancing the knowledge and skills necessary to provide individualized care based on physical, psychosocial, cultural, educational, safety, and age-appropriate considerations of assigned patients.
The Clinical Nurse 2 Colleague actively seeks feedback in leadership roles and provides constructive feedback to enhance clinical practice. The nurse demonstrates how nursing practice aligns with the organizational vision, mission, and goals, as well as the care delivery system. Compliance with all regulations and standards set by regulatory and accrediting bodies is essential.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:
- Integrate the Lancaster General Health mission, vision, and values into patient care planning.
- Function as both an independent and interdependent member of the healthcare team as defined in the unit-based Plan for Provision of Care.
- Conduct patient assessments, focusing on physiological, psychological, and cognitive functions. Evaluate progress toward outcomes and adapt the care plan based on recognized trends and changes. Collect and manage comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health or situation.
- Analyze assessment data to determine diagnoses or issues. Formulate age-appropriate and culturally sensitive care plans.
- Implement care knowledgeably and coordinate patient care across various disciplines and caregivers.
- Provide leadership to team members by effectively communicating expected standards of care and supporting their contributions.
- Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to values of privacy, quality, respect, service, and teamwork.
- Assign, delegate, and supervise other staff members, intervening as necessary to ensure the care plan is executed, continuity of care is maintained, and established outcomes are achieved through appropriate utilization of resources.
- Educate patients on healthy practices and treatment options.
- Continuously enhance the quality and effectiveness of nursing practices, utilizing technology where appropriate.
- Consider factors related to safety, effectiveness, cost, and impact on practice in the planning and delivery of nursing services.
- Manage rapidly changing situations following established protocols, coordinating and accessing appropriate health team members and resources, and documenting events.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing continuity in nurse-patient relationships, minimizing redundancies, and developing new methods and procedures.
- Complete mandatory education and training that includes age-specific needs, caring behaviors, and interpersonal skills as defined by the unit-based Plan for Provision of Care.
- Maintain a safe working environment through compliance with established evidence-based practice policies and procedures and timely reporting of safety variances.
- Exhibit pride in work through positive interactions with staff, coworkers, patients, and all individuals encountered.
- Seek experiences and engage in formal and independent learning activities to maintain and develop clinical and professional skills and knowledge.
- Provide supervision, guidance, counseling, and mentoring to peers and subordinates to enhance learning experiences and improve the professional practice environment.
- Participate in the employee performance process related to peers and subordinate team members; address employee issues as the first level of supervision; evaluate performance post-hire.
- Participate in on-call responsibilities as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- RN licensure is required, issued by the PA Board of Nursing.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher nursing degree is required. For Magnet designated RN positions, BSN or higher nursing degree is required for incumbents based on previously established parameters; or within two (2) years of placement in position for incumbents who started after 07/01/2020.
- Completion of the Nurse Residency Program or more than 15 months of practice.
- CPR Certification - American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support required within 30 days of hire.
- A healthcare provider in good standing with Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal and state health insurance programs.
- As outlined in unit-based Plan for Provision of Care.
