Job Overview

General Summary

The Physical Therapist will engage in the practice of physical therapy in accordance with the regulations set forth by the Board of Physical Therapy Examiners of Maryland.

This role encompasses the health specialty focused on preventing disabilities in patients and facilitating the physical rehabilitation of individuals with congenital or acquired disabilities.

The Physical Therapist is responsible for conducting and interpreting assessments and measurements related to neuromuscular and musculoskeletal functions, which are essential for developing treatment plans tailored to the findings of these evaluations.


In this position, the Physical Therapist must exhibit the knowledge and skills necessary to deliver care that is appropriate to the age, culture, ethnicity, and specific diagnostic needs of the patients served within the department.

They must be adept at assessing and interpreting patient data to identify unique needs and provide suitable care for various patient demographics, including pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric populations.

The role requires a consistent demonstration of compassion and courtesy towards patients, as well as support for their families and visitors. Familiarity with medication management standards as they pertain to anesthesia and the perioperative environment is essential.

Key Responsibilities


The following responsibilities outline the general nature and level of work expected from the individual in this role. This list is not exhaustive and may include additional duties as assigned.

  • Documentation: Accurately records patient care throughout the continuum from admission to discharge, ensuring compliance with electronic documentation training.
  • Patient Rights and Safety: Understands and respects patient rights, dignity, and safety, particularly concerning the use of restraints, and can articulate the hospital's philosophy on restraint reduction.
  • Assessment and Management: Conducts tone assessments and manages interventions, including administering the Ashworth evaluation and facilitating physician involvement for pharmacological interventions as needed.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Engages with patients, caregivers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure effective communication regarding treatment plans and patient progress.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensures a safe clinical environment, identifies safety risks, and participates in quality initiatives to enhance patient care.
  • Education and Professional Development: Maintains clinical competency, participates in the orientation of new staff, and engages in ongoing professional development through various educational opportunities.
