Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Occupational Therapist to join our team at Tanner Health System. As a Staff Occupational Therapist, you will be responsible for evaluating and treating patients with impairments in functional status, following a disability, disease, or illness.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate patients and develop treatment plans to include time-defined therapy goals, in accordance with physician-established plans of care.
  • Implement occupational therapy treatment programs in accordance with established standards.
  • Perform audits on 100% of rehab patient charts and submit QA requests to contract therapists.
  • Serve as the Activities Coordinator for the swing bed program, compiling individual patient activity calendars and providing group and individual activities on a daily basis.
  • Act as the therapy liaison between the contract provider, nursing, physicians, and administration.
  • Attend weekly Case Conference Swing Bed meetings and provide comprehensive reports on all patients in the program.
  • Participate in daily rounding meetings to discuss patients and determine the appropriateness of therapy evaluations.
  • Complete discharge summaries in a timely manner in accordance with company policy.
  • Consult with other departments to improve quality and efficiency of patient care.
  • Delegate treatment implementation appropriately, based on the type of treatment prescribed and level of training of support personnel.
  • Develop home programs and discharge plans, with input from patients and families.
  • Maintain confidentiality and patient records, including all required documentation within assigned time frames.
  • Market the swing bed programs at TMCEA and Higgins by calling on referral sources in both areas on a regular basis.
  • Perform clerical duties as assigned.
  • Practice good communication skills with patients and family members, recognizing potential problems or requests and responding appropriately.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution.
  • Licensure by the Georgia and Alabama Board of Examiners of Occupational Therapy.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of occupational therapy evaluation and treatment procedures.
  • BLS Certified.
Working Conditions

This position requires frequent contact with many persons at different levels inside and outside of the organization to carry out organization policies and programs and obtain willing acceptance, consent, or action.

The employee will work with confidential data, such as patient medical records, which if disclosed might have adverse internal or external effects.

This position requires moderate physical effort, lifting, carrying, or handling lightweight materials or equipment for about half of the day.

The employee will work in an office or laboratory setting, requiring close visual effort and concentration more than half of the day.

This position involves occasional exposure to dirt, odors, noise, or some work is performed with exposure to temperature/weather extremes/occupational risk and probability of coming into contact with blood-borne pathogens, other potentially infectious diseases, or biomedical/bio-hazardous materials.
