Job Title: Datacenter Technician
Location: Altoona, Iowa, United States
FTE Position (Onsite)
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Datacenter Technician to join our team at HCLTech. As a Datacenter Technician, you will be responsible for installing, testing, and maintaining fiber optic cables and network infrastructure in our data centers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install and terminate fiber optic cables, including simplex and duplex jumper cords, and outside plant fiber.
- Perform testing and troubleshooting using OTDR, Fluke, and EFXO equipment.
- Mount and install racks, patch panels, and hardware.
- Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cable as required.
- Calculate end-to-end loss budgets in accordance with TIA/EIA standards for multimode and single-mode fiber.
- Complete all paperwork accurately and on time, including timesheets, material transfers, work orders, and change orders.
- Perform mechanical and fusion splicing with all types of fiber cable.
- Perform building entrance splices, maintenance space, and direct buried splices.
Requirements:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Proficient with listed tools, including screwdrivers, torpedo levels, tape measures, snips, pliers, hammers, wrench sets, cable strippers, flashlights, and gloves.
- Experience with fiber optic cable installation, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of TIA/EIA standards for multimode and single-mode fiber.
- Ability to work at heights, off of a ladder, and in confined spaces.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to see and distinguish different colors, read small print, and hear and recognize audible signals.
- Ability to travel as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of experience in fiber optic cable installation and testing.
- Industry certifications, such as Corning/FOA.
- Data Center installation experience.
- Mechanical and fusion splice experience.
- OSP/Confined Space Entry experience.
Working Conditions:
The Datacenter Technician will work in a fast-paced data center environment, with frequent exposure to dust, noise, and other hazards. The technician must be able to work at heights, off of a ladder, and in confined spaces.
