Position Summary
The Community Outreach Specialist plays a crucial role in advocating for our programs within the local community, specifically targeting low-income families who are at risk of homelessness or currently experiencing housing instability. This position involves extensive community engagement to cultivate resources that assist families facing homelessness. As part of a collaborative team, the specialist contributes to case management, housing referrals, financial guidance, and benefits assistance.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducts outreach efforts, engagement activities, crisis intervention, and trauma-informed case management for clients and their families.
- Performs initial assessments and identifies immediate needs for crisis stabilization.
- Collaborates with the case management team to provide referrals, crisis support, and assistance with securing permanent housing for participants.
- Supports case managers in executing comprehensive assessments to gather relevant information for developing Individual Service Plans.
- Coordinates follow-up services with the case management team and meticulously documents all provided services.
- May undertake responsibilities of a Case Manager or Housing Specialist as required.
- Assists program staff in integrating developmental strategies and evidence-based practices to offer a comprehensive service approach, including imparting life skills through practical experiences.
- Facilitates workshops addressing household needs and provides crisis intervention as necessary, referring clients to suitable community resources.
- Leads community outreach initiatives for the program, representing Volunteers of America at relevant meetings and building partnerships within the community.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Requirements:
- Ability to pass a fingerprint clearance and background check, including criminal history, personal references, and employment verification.
Education:
- Associate's Degree in Social Services or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience (two years).
Experience:
- Minimum of one year of experience working with veterans, individuals in recovery, or those experiencing homelessness.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bilingual (Spanish).
- Familiarity with HMIS (Homeless Management Information System).
