Job Overview

Location: Oregon

Beef Northwest Feeders LLC is seeking a dedicated and skilled Cattle Ranch Operator to enhance our livestock management team. The selected candidate will oversee the health and welfare of cattle while effectively managing natural resources in a sustainable manner. Our company prides itself on being a leader in responsible cattle management practices.

Position Summary:

The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure the health and well-being of all cattle under the care of Beef Northwest Feeders LLC. This includes adhering to the highest standards of animal welfare and land stewardship.

This position will require flexibility between different operational sites. The role will primarily be based in one location during the warmer months and transition to another during the colder months, with accommodations provided at both sites.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Efficiently manage cattle operations on horseback, including tasks such as branding, castrating, weaning, sorting, and loading animals with minimal stress.
  • Monitor cattle health, identify illnesses, and administer necessary medications and vaccinations following established protocols.
  • Comply with all Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) standards and ranch protocols, maintaining accurate documentation of all activities.
  • Utilize cattle and pasture management software to ensure precise record-keeping for all cattle classes.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and repairs on corrals, fencing, and water systems as required.
  • Maintain vehicles, housing, barns, and other facilities associated with this position.
  • Promote a clean and safe working environment through proactive measures.
  • Participate in regular safety meetings and training sessions.

Qualifications:

  • Self-motivated individual with a strong work ethic and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Possession of at least three well-trained horses for performing job duties safely.
  • Experience in cattle handling and horsemanship, demonstrating a commitment to animal welfare.
  • Able to work independently as well as collaboratively in small and large groups for various tasks.
  • Willingness to learn and adopt new technologies and methods.
  • Valid driving record is required.
