Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Respiratory Therapy Assistant to join our team at Ochsner Health. As a Respiratory Therapy Assistant, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting our respiratory therapists in their daily tasks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist respiratory therapists in patient care under their direct supervision.
  • Perform clinical job duties as outlined by departmental Orientation, Assessment, & Evaluation (OAE), training, and competency.
  • Support respiratory/hospital administration by accepting established objectives, policies, and procedures.
  • Accurately document patient-related tasks.
  • Maintain professional knowledge and required certifications through growth and development.
  • Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions, and communication style.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with supervision.
  • Effective planning, organizing, and time management skills.
  • Ability to travel throughout and between facilities.
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule (24/7, weekend, holiday, on-call availability).
Physical and Environmental Demands

Very Heavy Work - Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid, and tissue. The incumbent works in a patient care area; works in an area where patients enter; works directly with patients; and/or works with specimens that could contain communicable diseases.

The incumbent has an occupational risk for exposure to all communicable diseases. Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be an occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning, and/or disposal of contaminated waste.
