Job Summary

The Diagnostic Sonographer is a key member of our radiology team, utilizing high-frequency sound waves and other diagnostic techniques to aid in medical diagnosis.

Responsibilities
  • Perform scanning examinations as requested by referring physicians, modifying the examination as necessary based on findings.
  • Assist radiologists or clinicians in special procedures such as percutaneous fluid aspiration or biopsy procedures.
  • Conduct routine equipment checks for resolution and quality control procedures.
  • React quickly to emergency situations, ensuring patient safety and sounding alarms as necessary.
  • Work independently on shifts or call, completing tasks efficiently.
  • Lift, push, reach, bend, stop, and walk to care for patients, and perform stand-pivot transfers.
  • Meet with the Radiology Manager to discuss needs, activities, and problems within the ultrasound department.
  • Order, charge, and schedule patients in the RIS system.
Additional Duties
  • Verify images of exams and send to PACS.
  • Perform high-level disinfection processes according to policy and procedures.
  • Maintain inventory of coupling agents, drugs, and other supplies, requisitioning materials as needed.
  • Teach ultrasound technique to student technologists.
  • Comply with established procedures and policies.
  • Accept non-routine work assignments, such as covering in Diagnostic Radiology when needed.
  • Work a variety of shifts and be in the call rotation on a scheduled basis.
  • Be able to work on call and in the department within 45 minutes after being called in for a procedure.
  • Sit or stand for prolonged periods to perform ordered examinations.
