The Maternity Care Registered Nurse is responsible for overseeing and ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care in the Obstetrics and Gynecology department. This role requires the nurse to demonstrate sound clinical judgment and efficiency while working under supervision.
In this position, the nurse will support mothers during the crucial stages of labor, monitor vital signs, and recognize potential complications. The Maternity Care RN will also engage in patient education and address the emotional and psychological needs of mothers post-delivery, showcasing critical thinking and coordination in patient care management. Adherence to nursing standards is essential, as is accountability in managing patient care and supporting colleagues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Employ the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
- Identify signs and symptoms indicating physiological and psychosocial changes in patients.
- Gather, analyze, and document data from healthcare team members, noting actual and potential nursing diagnoses.
- Develop care plans with expected outcomes for assigned patients.
- Execute interventions based on established priorities and hospital policies.
- Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients.
- Utilize clinical judgment to evaluate activities and prioritize patient care needs.
- Monitor the safety and effectiveness of the care environment and equipment.
- Foster positive relationships with patients, families, healthcare coworkers, and physicians.
- Communicate effectively with all stakeholders while remaining objective and sensitive.
- Relay important information regarding patients and nursing unit activities as necessary.
- Monitor vital signs for both mothers and newborns.
- Administer medications as prescribed.
- Track contractions and fetal heart rates.
- Recognize complications during labor and delivery.
- Convey the mother's condition and needs to the attending physician.
- Provide coaching and emotional support to mothers during labor.
- Attend to mothers post-delivery.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Active Registered Nurse license in the state of practice.
- Preferred: One year of clinical experience in Labor and Delivery within the last three years.
- Compliance with all relevant professional standards.
- Participation in Amergis' Competency program when applicable.
- Current CPR certification if applicable.
- TB Questionnaire, PPD, or chest x-ray as required.
- Current health certificate per contract or state regulations.
- Fulfillment of all federal, state, and local requirements.
- Successful completion of new hire training as applicable.
- Understanding of patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations.
- Strong communication skills and proficiency in the English language.
- Computer proficiency is required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
