POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior AOD Counseling Supervisor is responsible for leading and overseeing a proficient clinical service delivery team. This role involves conducting comprehensive psychosocial evaluations, facilitating both group and individual therapy sessions, and developing personalized treatment plans. The Supervisor collaborates closely with the treatment team to ensure seamless transitions of care as clients complete their programs. Additionally, this position entails supervising AOD Counselors, conducting chart reviews, and providing necessary reports to the Clinical Program Director. The Supervisor will maintain a manageable caseload within the Therapeutic Community, offering both individual and group counseling services, as well as leading larger seminars. Familiarity with assessment administration and ASAM criteria is essential.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide daily oversight of AOD counselors assigned to the program.
  • Develop and manage staff schedules for approval by the Clinical Director.
  • Ensure compliance with program policies and procedures.
  • Conduct monthly quality assurance evaluations of treatment case files to uphold program standards.
  • Administer and interpret required screening and assessment tools, including the TCU Drug Screen and Treatment Assignment Protocol.
  • Conduct screenings and assessments during the intake process and follow-up screenings for ongoing populations.
  • Interview participants to gather additional data not covered by standard assessment tools.
  • Review Department of Corrections files as necessary.
  • Prepare detailed reports based on assessment results.
  • Familiarize oneself with the Therapeutic Community concepts.
  • Conduct supervision sessions with staff and maintain accurate records for the Clinical Director.
  • Assess clients for mental health and substance use factors to determine appropriate next steps.
  • Document interactions and escalate serious cases as needed.
  • Identify resources and connect clients to necessary assistance.
  • Engage with clients via phone, virtually, or in person to assess crises and immediate needs.
  • Participate in team discussions regarding participant progress.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Understanding of various therapeutic models, including cognitive behavioral therapy and addiction theories.
  • Knowledge of offender populations and cultural differences related to substance abuse.
  • Compliance with program documentation and ethical standards.
  • Effective communication skills with staff and administration.
  • Ability to conduct clinical assessments for diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Tailoring treatment strategies to align with the participant's identity and recovery stage.
  • Professional interaction in both individual and group counseling settings.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative.
  • Commitment to ethical conduct and confidentiality standards.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred.
  • Ability to obtain necessary clearances as required.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of five years of direct substance abuse counseling experience, preferably with criminal justice populations.
  • At least one year of supervisory experience in counseling services.
  • A Master's degree in Human Services or Substance Abuse is required; Bachelor's degree may be considered with relevant supervisory experience.


CERTIFICATION:

  • Must possess CAC AD, LCPC certification.
  • Approved Supervisory Status from the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors is required.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work primarily occurs in a correctional institution setting, requiring the ability to de-escalate challenging situations.
