POSITION SUMMARY

Accountable for addressing the dietary requirements of patients to ensure optimal health outcomes; evaluates nutritional needs, formulates and executes dietary care plans, and assesses and documents results.

SUPERVISORY STRUCTURE
  • Reports to the Clinical Nutrition Manager
QUALIFICATIONS

Supervisory Role: No

Educational Background: Bachelor's Degree is mandatory.

Field of Study: Degree in Nutrition, Food Science, Food Systems Management, or a related discipline.

Licensure/Certification: Registered Dietitian adhering to the continuing education standards of the Commission on Dietetic Registration. Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist in Tennessee.

Experience: Preferred one year in Clinical Dietetics. Experience with pediatric or neonatal populations is a plus.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage pediatric medical nutrition therapy for a diverse patient population, seeking guidance from Clinical Nutrition Specialists for complex cases.
  • Design, implement, and assess care plans based on physiological knowledge and nutritional assessments, integrating with other healthcare strategies.
  • Evaluate nutrition care specific to populations and ensure continuity of care through follow-up.
  • Document dietary histories and nutritional care data in medical records.
  • Interpret and execute physician diet orders, providing clarification and education to families and staff regarding necessary dietary adjustments.
  • Assess nutritional needs and oversee enteral and parenteral nutrition to ensure optimal support.
  • Provide counseling to individuals and families on nutritional principles, dietary strategies, food choices, and cost-effective options, tailoring plans to individual needs.
  • Collaborate with the Food Purchasing Manager to procure medical nutrition products, leveraging contracts to optimize savings.
  • Assist in developing, implementing, and evaluating quality assurance standards for nutrition services.
  • Act as a nutritionist within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Offer individual outpatient nutrition counseling upon physician referral.
  • Create and compile educational materials for nutrition education and conduct programs as needed.
  • Share responsibilities for on-call services.
  • Communicate pertinent information effectively to patients, families, staff, physicians, and nutrition team members in a timely manner.
  • Work collaboratively with other Clinical Dietitians, Clinical Nutrition Specialists, Directors, Managers, Supervisors, and Food Service Aides to enhance patient care.
  • Exhibit teamwork and a cooperative spirit.
  • Maintain accurate inventory within assigned responsibilities.
  • Utilize hospital resources and time efficiently and responsibly, consistently contributing while on duty.
  • Be open to additional assignments as requested.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Note: Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
  • Medium lifting, pushing, and pulling are required for 20-50 lbs occasionally, 10-20 lbs frequently, and 10 lbs constantly. Emergency situations may require lifting or moving up to 100 lbs. Frequent bending, walking, sitting, squatting, reaching, and standing are necessary. Keyboard/computer use and/or repetitive motions may be involved.
