Overview

Under the guidance of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse, the Certified Nursing Assistant is responsible for various tasks that assist in the care and treatment of patients/residents, adhering to established policies and protocols. It is essential to remain informed about all relevant federal, state, and Guthrie regulations, laws, and policies as they evolve.

Qualifications

Previous experience with the elderly population is preferred. Must be in good standing on the New York State Nurse Aide Registry as a Certified Nursing Assistant, with no findings of abuse, mistreatment, neglect, or misappropriation of property/funds.

Educational Background

High School diploma or GED is preferred.

Key Responsibilities

1. Routine Patient/Resident Care

Assists with the direct care of patients/residents, including dressing, grooming, ambulating, toileting, and transferring. Prepares and assists with meals, ensuring hydration and nourishment according to patient/resident needs. Measures and records vital signs: temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure, reporting findings to the supervising nurse. Provides routine morning and evening care, including skin care assistance. Monitors intake and output, documenting appropriately. Collects and labels specimens, ensuring timely transport to the designated area following established protocols. Participates in shift reports, effectively communicating information to incoming staff. Conducts rounds and promptly responds to call lights. Engages in clinical learning experiences for new staff and students.

2. Transportation Assistance

Escorts patients/residents to various departments. Safely escorts discharged patients/residents. Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in using medical equipment safely and effectively.

3. Emergency Preparedness

Actively participates in emergency preparedness procedures and drills. Familiar with and participates in various emergency drills and actual events.

4. Documentation

Accurately documents patient/resident care activities in a timely manner in accordance with facility policies. Adheres to infection control protocols, providing safe and effective patient/resident care. Utilizes appropriate personal protective equipment as necessary. Follows hand hygiene and isolation procedures as required.

The compensation for this role ranges from $17.65 to $27.55 per hour.
