Job Title: Medical Laboratory Scientist II

ProMedica is seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist II to join our team at Hickman Hospital. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing routine and complex analytical procedures, recognizing deviations, and providing interpretation following established standards and practices.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform testing, including maintaining established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, processing biological specimens for analysis, and evaluating and solving problems related to specimen collection and processing.
  • Maintain accurate quality control records, recognize out-of-control results, and take appropriate actions.
  • Act as a liaison and foster effective communication between the laboratory and healthcare team, maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Perform routine inquiry and data input on laboratory computer systems, ensuring accuracy of information and taking corrective actions as needed.
  • Provide guidance to coworkers in the absence of an on-site supervisor regarding staffing and technical issues.
Requirements:
  • Doctoral, Master's, or Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES, CAHEA, or other organization approved by HHS.
  • Certification as an American Society of Pathology (ASCP) MLS or Categorical eligible at time of hire with certification achieved within one year of hire.
Working Conditions:

Must be able to move continuously about the hospital and between workstations, and tolerate exposure to disease-bearing specimens, odorous chemicals, carcinogens, mutagens, low-level radiation, electrical hazards, and flammable liquids.
