BASIC FUNCTION
To execute a diverse array of skilled maintenance and construction tasks on campus facilities and surrounding areas.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct a variety of skilled carpentry and related trades tasks associated with the maintenance and construction of campus structures, focusing on significant repairs, renovations, and new building projects. This includes: all forms of rough and finish carpentry work, both internal and external (doors, windows, walls, ceilings, floors, staircases, roofs, fences, staging, framing, etc.); concrete and masonry tasks (wall repair and construction, laying foundations, concrete flooring, etc.); roofing work (installation of asphalt shingles and other roofing materials); plaster and drywall tasks; interior and exterior painting and staining, including surface preparation; glass cutting and installation; lock installation and repair; basic plumbing and electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs; and providing assistance to licensed plumbers and electricians on more complex plumbing, heating system, and electrical installation, upgrading, and repair projects.
  • Remove waste from campus collection points and transport to designated disposal sites.
  • Assist with various planning tasks related to assigned projects, including designing methods, estimating costs, determining required materials, and assessing time needed for project completion.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work areas, tools, and equipment.
  • Procure necessary supplies and materials for assigned tasks.
  • Supervise the activities of junior technicians assigned to specific projects.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Minimal supervision is provided by the Maintenance Supervisor or other senior staff members.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school education is desirable, along with six to seven years of relevant training and/or experience, or a combination of education and experience that provides comparable knowledge and skills.

  • Comprehensive knowledge and skills related to the building trades, including rough and finish carpentry, masonry and concrete foundation work, basic plumbing and electrical work, heavy equipment operation, and similar areas.
