About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Scribe/Technician to join our team at the National Retina Institute. As a key member of our clinical support team, you will play a critical role in providing accurate and timely documentation of patient examinations and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide accurate and thorough documentation of patient examinations and procedures, including chief complaints, histories, and ocular findings.
  • Initiate patient evaluations, documenting all pertinent information in accordance with compliance guidelines.
  • Communicate effectively with patients regarding follow-up care, surgeries, and procedures.
  • Maintain and clean all ophthalmic equipment, including medical devices and instruments.
  • Apply correct ICD-10 and CPT codes for accurate billing and coding.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, with strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Navigate electronic health records (EHRs) and other clinical software with ease.
  • Complete requests for prescription refills, with full documentation in patient charts.
  • Educate patients on medication administration and other clinical procedures.
  • Perform daily temperature checks on medical refrigerators and maintain inventory of medications and supplies.
  • Assist with maintenance of clinical examination equipment and clean surgical instruments.
  • Follow all safety procedures and protocols, with a focus on patient safety and well-being.
  • Prioritize building and maintaining positive relationships with doctors, clinical colleagues, and patients.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients, staff, managers, and doctors.
  • Basic computer literacy required.
  • Highly energetic and positive attitude.
  • Ability to travel to other offices occasionally to meet business demands.
  • Ability to walk and stand for eight hours.
  • Ability to type or write legibly in a dimly lit setting.
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Scribe (OSC) preferred.
  • Two years of medical scribe experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of ophthalmology billing and coding strongly preferred.
  • NextGen or applicable EHR experience preferred.
