Position Overview
This role is designed for an educator specializing in special education within the AHS T3 program. The T3 (Tier 3) initiative caters to high school students primarily diagnosed with Emotional Disabilities. These students often face persistent psychiatric challenges that hinder their academic engagement and overall school experience. Many participants in the AHS T3 program have histories that necessitate higher levels of clinical intervention outside the educational environment. The primary objective of this program is to furnish students with comprehensive emotional, social, and academic assistance through tailored instruction, therapeutic counseling, care coordination, and academic support. This initiative is purposefully structured as an inclusive program with a holistic support framework.
Program Structure
The T3 program is managed by a clinical coordinator alongside two special education instructors. Staff members collaborate closely with social work and psychology professionals, guidance counselors, and nursing staff. Oversight is provided by the district's Clinical Director in conjunction with high school administration.
Candidate Profile
Ideal candidates will possess experience working with adolescents facing significant psychiatric hurdles, such as severe anxiety and depression, and will be adept at assisting students in managing academic pressures, general responsibilities, and social interactions. It is important to note that this program is not intended for students exhibiting externalizing behaviors, social maladjustment, or substance use issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage casework for T3 students
- Provide academic assistance in small group settings
- Offer some in-class support for T3 students within general education environments
- Coordinate academic efforts with general education teachers and clinical facilities where students may receive additional support
- Gather and analyze data regarding student progress
- Valid Massachusetts Teaching Certification: Teacher of Moderate Special Needs
- Proven experience instructing students with learning disabilities, social-emotional challenges, autism, and other special needs
- Expertise in adapting educational materials and curricula for special needs students
- Strong foundation in curriculum development and academic instruction
- Ability to collaborate with general education teachers to address the learning needs of special education students
- Experience in creating and implementing behavioral management strategies
- Familiarity with inclusive instructional models and a willingness to engage in team teaching
- Proficiency in utilizing technology within the classroom is preferred.
