Since our inception, we have made significant strides in designing and testing multiple generations of prototype aircraft, aiming to establish a network of electric air taxis. Role Summary:
We are looking for a detail-oriented and enthusiastic Manufacturing Specialist to join our powertrain and electronics division. This role is pivotal in constructing essential components for our vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) electric aircraft.
The Joby Aviation team is composed of highly skilled, proactive, and hands-on professionals who thrive in a dynamic and fulfilling work environment. Join us in our mission to create advanced electrical powertrains and make a significant impact in the transportation sector.
Key Responsibilities:
- Construct various early-stage pilot and pre-production assemblies utilizing Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).
- Work autonomously once assigned a project or task.
- Adapt to a variety of tasks assigned on a daily basis.
- Maintain a clean workspace and implement 5S best practices.
- Follow Joby's safety protocols and procedures diligently.
- Demonstrate critical thinking skills in a pilot and production setting.
- Conduct line trials for new products and processes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet production goals.
- Provide constructive feedback and communicate any issues encountered during assembly to enhance processes.
- Assist in building workstations, testing stations, and fixtures.
- Assemble hardware for testing and aircraft components while ensuring proper documentation.
- Perform equipment teardowns and validation tests for new testers across multiple lines.
- Support engineers in investigating quality issues and test failures.
- Mentor and provide on-the-job training for production associates.
- Conduct quality assurance activities, including self-inspections and in-process inspections.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
- Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Motivated to contribute to the company's mission.
- Proficient in operating various equipment according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and using basic hand tools.
- Strong work ethic and ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Team-oriented with excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and analytical capabilities.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
- Capable of lifting 25-35 lbs and performing repetitive tasks.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a pre-production pilot phase environment.
- Familiarity with bills of materials (BOM) and MES systems.
- Background in industrial environments and procedures.
- Experience with high-voltage systems and complex electromechanical systems.
- Knowledge of electro-mechanical assembly, including overmolding.
- Experience in writing and adhering to work instructions.
- Proficiency in machining, welding, and mechanical craftsmanship is advantageous.
- Basic wiring and diagnostics experience.
- Experience in mechanical component assembly and systems integration.
- IPC J-STD, 610 certification.
- Forklift operation experience.
- Familiarity with JIRA, Confluence, and ION/MES.
- Experience in lean manufacturing practices.
Compensation:
Joby offers a competitive compensation package that includes base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target hourly rate for this position ranges from $23 to $31, determined by relevant knowledge, skills, and experience.
