About the Role:
The Clinical Laboratory Specialist will be responsible for conducting a variety of laboratory tests and procedures, demonstrating independent judgment and expertise with minimal supervision. This role is crucial in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct laboratory tests and procedures, ensuring adherence to quality control standards.
- Document daily quality control measures and take corrective actions as necessary.
- Perform calibrations and proficiency testing to maintain high standards of laboratory performance.
- Enter and verify laboratory results in the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
- Assist in training and orienting new departmental personnel.
- Resolve technical issues related to testing and proficiency evaluations.
- Review and assess test results for accuracy and consistency.
- Compile data and prepare reports as directed.
- Manage supply inventory to ensure laboratory operations run smoothly.
- Participate in required meetings and professional development activities.
- Uphold patient confidentiality at all times.
- Perform additional related duties as required.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or a related field.
- Completion of a one-year internship in an accredited laboratory.
- New York State Clinical Laboratory Technologist License.
- A minimum of one year of experience in a laboratory setting.
Preferred:
- Completion of at least 90 semester hours in an accredited college, meeting the requirements for medical technology internship.
- Certification from ASCP or NCA.
Physical Demands:
This position requires a full range of motion, including manual dexterity and coordination. Frequent standing and walking are necessary, along with the ability to lift items weighing up to 30 pounds. Visual acuity and normal color perception are essential.
Working Conditions:
Exposure to various laboratory conditions, including communicable diseases and toxic substances, is inherent to this role.
