This Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist position is an exciting opportunity to join the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration team. As a key member of our imaging department, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality diagnostic imaging services to our patients.
Responsibilities- Gather relevant information from medical records, significant others, and healthcare providers to ensure accurate procedure ordering and protocol implementation.
- Maintain competence in venipuncture and refer to the Radiology Service procedure manual for guidelines on administration of contrast media, power injection of contrast media, and use of contrast media.
- Apply universal, standard, and transmission-based precautions as necessary.
- Provide pre-procedural, procedural, and post-procedural care during examinations.
- Perform daily quality management inspections of radiographic units to ensure proper mechanical functionality and ensure daily functionality of CR readers.
- Maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification on a bi-annual basis and remain in compliance at all times.
- Operate a wide variety of imaging equipment to obtain examinations of acceptable quality, utilizing the least amount of radiation necessary for diagnosis and localization purposes.
- Perform all aspects of CT imaging, including head, neck, chest, abdomen, pelvis, extremities, 3D reconstructions of CT, multi-planar reformats CT, and angiographic studies when requested or part of a standard procedure.
- Perform special procedures such as CT angiography of the circle of Willis, carotids, abdominal aortas, and run-offs, utilizing specialized series to visualize anatomy and pathology necessary for diagnosis.
- Perform interventional CT biopsy exams utilizing surgical sterile techniques.
- Prepare contrast materials under the direction of the radiologist used in CT, including CT angiography and other exams.
- Understand policies and procedures for practicing radiation safety to reduce exposure to patients, staff, and self.
- Maintain knowledge in CT dose optimization and the factors that directly affect radiation dose from the CT scanner to the patient.
- Review CT orders screening information for accuracy.
- Perform and complete imaging studies within established guidelines for stat, preop, urgent, and routine exams.
- Perform minor equipment adjustments, repairs, and exercise care in handling and safeguarding all equipment.
- Maintain competency and thorough knowledge of processes for critical, semi-critical, and non-critical reusable medical equipment (RME) and standard operating procedures (SOPs) that document the process and procedures for cleaning, disinfection, sterilization, and preparation of RME and follow established procedures for all RME.
Tuesday - Friday, 2:00 pm - 12:00 am
