Position Summary:
The Cardiology Nurse is responsible for providing healthcare services to individuals, families, and communities within the RN scope of practice as defined by the Illinois Board of Nursing.
Qualifications:
CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS: Registered Professional Nurse (RN) License in Illinois upon hire and additional requirements.
Attend and satisfactorily complete all required continuing education regarding the care of acute stroke patients.
Skills and Knowledge:
Demonstrates clinical competencies in providing direct patient care and patient and family education, as well as assisting the provider in the delivery of patient care. Exhibits leadership and organizational skills with the ability to communicate effectively and collaboratively with others.
Essential Functions:
- Facilitates competent healthcare for patients and families in the area of practice.
- Ensures adherence to established standards of care and scope of practice.
- Maintains complete and accurate documentation of care.
- Provides health and wellness education to individuals and groups.
- Acts as a preceptor and supports the development of other staff and healthcare students.
- Leads initiatives aimed at improving the quality of care or clinical outcomes.
- Assists Nursing Supervisor/coordinator in developing departmental standing orders.
- Guides the healthcare team in collaborative practice.
- Notes and executes physician and nursing orders.
- Maintains professionalism in all situations.
- Handles telephone triage and medication refills.
- Manages Cardiology RN worklist, including preauthorization and scheduling challenges.
- Performs cardiac stress testing and EKGs.
- Mentors junior team members.
- Demonstrates understanding of emergency preparedness procedures.
- Executes prescribed treatments and medical interventions, administers medications, and monitors treatment progress and patient responses.
- Obtains and records patient identification, medical history, or test results.
- Provides phone triage and returns patient calls within one business day.
