ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


The professional registered nurse in Inpatient Services is an entry-level position within the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP).

This role is accountable for delivering and coordinating clinically proficient care, which includes assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation for a designated group of patients.

Responsibilities may include delegating appropriate tasks to direct patient care staff, including but not limited to RNs, LVN/LPNs, and Patient Care Technicians.

As a vital member of the kidney disease healthcare team, this position engages in decision-making, educational activities, leadership roles, and quality improvement initiatives that enhance patient care outcomes and operational effectiveness.


KEY DUTIES:


All responsibilities are expected to be performed in alignment with Fresenius Kidney Care policies, procedures, nursing standards, and applicable regulations.


Perform essential functions under the supervision of the Supervisor and with guidance from the Educator, Preceptor, or in collaboration with another Registered Nurse.


Conduct ongoing, systematic collection and analysis of patient data before, during, and after treatment for assigned patients, documenting findings in the patient medical record, adjusting treatment plans as necessary, and notifying relevant parties.

Assess, collaborate, and document patient/family learning needs to provide initial and ongoing education.


Identify aspects of patient status that deviate from normal and report to or collaborate with appropriate healthcare team members for input.

Deliver safe and effective patient care for assigned patients as prescribed for all modality-specific treatment procedures.

Evaluate daily patient care needs and collaborate with direct and ancillary care staff as necessary.


Initiate and coordinate communication with both FKC and Non-FKC dialysis providers and relevant facility personnel to ensure continuity of patient care.


Implement, administer, monitor, and document patient responses to prescribed intradialytic transfusions, including notifying physicians and blood suppliers of any adverse reactions.

Administer medications as prescribed and document medical justification and effectiveness.

Initiate and assist with emergency response measures.

Serve as a resource for the healthcare team, participating in staff training and orientation of new employees as assigned.

May be required to provide specialized nursing care instruction to facility staff as stipulated contractually.

May assist in an Outpatient facility on an as-needed basis.

Required to complete CAP requirements for advancement.

Perform all other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

This position requires travel to training and meeting sites and between assigned facilities.

Participation in on-call rotation, night, weekend, holiday, or as defined by program needs is required.

SUPERVISION:
Assigned oversight of Patient Care Technicians/LVN/LPNs/RNs as a designated Nurse in Charge, after meeting all the following:

Successful completion of all Fresenius Kidney Care education and modality-specific training requirements for new employees.

A minimum of 9 months experience as a Registered Nurse is required.

6 months experience in acute dialysis as a Registered Nurse is preferred.

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE:
Current appropriate state licensure is required.

Current or successful completion of CPR BLS Certification is necessary.

Must meet practice requirements in all states employed.

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:
Entry-level for RNs with less than 1 year of Nephrology Nursing experience in the last two years as an RN.

A minimum of 9 months experience as a Registered Nurse is required, with 12 months preferred.

6 months acute dialysis experience is preferred.

Experience in Hemodialysis and/or ICU is preferred.
