Job Title:

Research Assistant Professor

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced postdoctoral researcher to join our team as a Research Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will work closely with researchers at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the USDA Forest Service to investigate the association between eBird-based population trends and habitat conditions. The project aims to explore avenues for combining information sources from eBird with data from other monitoring programs to improve species distribution models.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research on statistical modeling and natural resource decision-making
  • Map Pinyon Jay distributions and investigate potential factors behind population change
  • Collaborate with researchers at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the USDA Forest Service
  • Develop and implement data analysis and modeling techniques
  • Communicate research findings through publications and presentations
Requirements:
  • Ph.D. in molecular/cell biology, genetics, developmental biology, or related field
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Experience using molecular techniques for cloning and analysis of nucleic acids and proteins
  • Experience using immunohistochemistry and/or in situ hybridization for analyses of gene expression
  • Experience with molecular biology and biochemistry
  • Knowledge of cell biology and microscopy
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Researcher with experience in statistical modeling who is also interested in natural resource decision-making and species conservation
  • Used data products from eBird Status and Trends to map Pinyon Jay distributions and investigate potential factors behind population change
  • Willing to work closely with researchers both at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the USDA Forest Service
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success
