JOB DESCRIPTION:

Equip students with essential knowledge and skills necessary for achieving technological proficiency and exploring career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Students will acquire competencies in the design, development, evaluation, and implementation of various products, services, and systems.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Deliver a comprehensive curriculum that aligns with the Alabama Department of Education (ALSDE) and Career & Technical Education (CTE) Course of Study.
  • Oversee a Career Technical Education Student Organization (CTSO) and engage in at least one program-related competition annually.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the educational institution's vision, objectives, and priorities.
  • Comply with school system regulations, administrative protocols, local board policies, and applicable state and federal laws.
  • Collaborate with educators, administrators, parents, school counselors, and service providers to develop a holistic educational approach for students.
  • Assist in formulating and executing individual education service and transition plans for students.
  • Guide students through a curriculum designed to meet established objectives and prepare them to achieve grade-level standards.
  • Instruct students in civic responsibility and fundamental subject matter as mandated by state laws and Birmingham City Schools policies.
  • Work with colleagues to provide instruction that aligns with current and future job market requirements.
  • Create lesson plans and supplementary materials that adhere to curriculum standards; offer personalized and small group instruction to cater to diverse student needs.
  • Transform lesson plans into engaging learning experiences to maximize instructional time and actively involve students.
  • Establish and maintain behavioral standards necessary for a productive learning environment by positively reinforcing acceptable behaviors and addressing inappropriate conduct.
  • Assess students' academic and social development, prepare report cards, and maintain accurate records, including attendance and other necessary documentation.
  • Maintain regular communication with parents or guardians through meetings and other channels to discuss student progress.
  • Administer standardized assessments.
  • Exemplify nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • A Valid Alabama Teacher's Certificate in Agriscience Education, Business/Marketing Education, Career Technologies, Family and Consumer Science Education, Health Science, or Technical Education; or eligibility for CTE certification; participation in CTE-TCP.
    • Must possess or be willing to obtain Certification add-on for Computer Science Discoveries.
    • Must comply with Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) federal and state requirements or be willing to meet these requirements within the designated timeframe.
Note: Relevant experience gained in the private sector may be considered for certain positions that are not traditionally in the education field but require specialized training or certifications.
