Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pharmacist PRN to join our team at Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System. As a key member of our pharmacy team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care and ensuring the safe and effective dispensing of medications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Tasks
    • Review and interpret patient prescriptions and profiles to prevent overdoses, incompatibilities, and toxicity, and to ensure the provision of high-quality pharmacy services and patient care.
    • Demonstrate understanding of formulary system and ensure compliance with the formulary.
    • Document all clinical interventions in the department-approved tracking system.
    • Supervise and review all functions performed by support personnel within the pharmacy.
    • Remove all out-of-date medication from inventory immediately upon discovery and check all patients on that medication to ensure none will be given.
    • Maintain physical inventory to ensure adequate supply of medications to meet patient demands.
    • Complete all assigned daily tasks and assist others when time permits.
    • Complete other duties as assigned.
    • Be available to fill in for staff pharmacists as needed.
  • Critical Thinking
    • Each Pharmacist is responsible for clinical use and knowledge of Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacological effects of drugs and chemicals on the human body.
    • Compute calculations appropriate to originate clinical suggestions based on patient parameters such as age, organ function, and weight, to provide more effective usage of targeted medications.
    • Advise other health care professionals regarding the properties and effects, proper administration, stability and compatibility of drugs to ensure safe and effective patient care.
    • Utilize references and computer programs to accurately dose and understand the Pharmacokinetics properties and pharmacology of drugs dispensed by the pharmacy.
    • Provide in-service education to health care professionals and participate when directed in community education activities.
    • Effectively record and report data including all interventions that improve patient care, documentation of adverse drug reactions, identification of medication errors, concurrent Drug Utilization Evaluations, and cost-effective therapeutic interchanges.
    • Able to assess a situation and choose the appropriate course of action.
    • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with different people taking into consideration any special needs.
  • Interpersonal Relations
    • Communicate with physicians and nursing staff/customers concerning the availability, side effects, and possible incompatibilities of new as well as currently used drugs. Demonstrate engagement with pharmacy practices through: reviewing pharmacy and therapeutics newsletter, departmental minutes, and communication with management.
    • Effectively manage support staff and provide direction in their daily responsibilities.
    • Expeditiously resolve any communication deficits with other health care professionals and co-workers.
    Qualifications
    • Experience: Previous Hospital Inpatient Pharmacy and IV Sterile Compounding experience preferred.
    • Education: Bachelor's or PharmD Degree.
    • Licensure: Licensed as a Registered Pharmacist in Louisiana.
