Job Summary

Procurement Specialist responsible for sourcing and purchasing materials and services for Fairbanks Scales Inc. Coordinates purchasing activities, works closely with manufacturing planning, and prepares annual physical inventory with finance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Utilize MRP system for daily activities, including purchase orders, inventory management, and delivery dates.
  • Review requisitions for goods or services and communicate with vendors for product information, pricing, and delivery schedules.
  • Select products for purchase by testing, observing, or examining items, and prioritize purchase orders to meet production schedules.
  • Estimate values based on market knowledge and review bid proposals to negotiate contracts within budgetary limitations.
  • Work with inspection or quality control personnel to resolve issues with purchased materials and maintain accurate procurement records.
  • Stay up-to-date with market trends, changes in business practices, and new materials entering the market.
  • Collaborate with manufacturers on custom-designed items and track purchases, monitor vendor quality, and maintain a current database of vendor information.
  • Work with finance to track physical inventory and assist with the annual physical inventory count.
  • Understand and learn to edit shop manufacturing schedules and set up and use the Kanban system for raw materials.
  • Cross-train to act as a back-up for the Expeditor role and perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High school diploma required, associate's or bachelor's degree preferred.
  • At least two years of directly related experience, with a preference for experience with purchasing steel and raw materials.
Skills and Abilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, specifically Excel and Outlook.
  • Experience with MRP software a plus.
  • Critical thinking and attention to detail, with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to develop and maintain business relationships.
  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work, as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.
Work Environment
  • General office conditions, with exposure to moderate noise levels within a manufacturing environment.
  • Indoor and outdoor manufacturing areas, with exposure to high noise levels, changing temperatures, uneven surfaces, and dust.
Physical Abilities
  • Required to use close vision and focus.
  • Regularly required to talk and hear, frequently required to sit, stand, and bend at the knee and waist, and walk.
  • Must be able to use repetitive wrist, hand, and/or finger movement to type and work on a computer.
  • Must have finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination to work on a computer, telephone, and related office equipment.
  • Ability to don personal protective equipment in posted areas as required.
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
