Fleet Mechanic Job Description

Job Summary:

The Fleet Mechanic will be responsible for performing routine maintenance and repairs on heavy fleet equipment, including gasoline, diesel, and other mechanical equipment. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude and be able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on heavy fleet equipment
  • Diagnose and repair or replace engines and subassemblies
  • Adjust and maintain apparatus and vehicles using control and regulating devices
  • Inspect and test apparatus or vehicles to ensure operating efficiency
  • Read and understand operating manuals, schematics, and technical drawings
  • Repair and replace damaged or worn parts
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level

Requirements:

  • Valid Utah Class B CDL (must obtain within 6 months of hire)
  • UFA Level I EVT Certification (must obtain within 18 months of hire)
  • At least four years of experience as a mechanic or an equivalent combination of education and related experience
  • Knowledge of heavy apparatus, light vehicle, and equipment maintenance
  • Computer skills and fleet maintenance software programs
  • Delivery practices and warehousing practices

Working Environment:

Work is performed in a shop, fire station bay, or in a field service setting. The Fleet Mechanic may be exposed to varying weather conditions and will be required to work after hours and weekends on a weekly or monthly basis.

Physical and Mental Job Requirements:

The Fleet Mechanic must be able to perform each of the essential job functions satisfactorily. This includes being able to bend, kneel, and stand for extended periods of time and possessing dexterity of hands and arms to perform job duties.
