Project Archaeologist

We are seeking a highly skilled Project Archaeologist to join our Heritage and Cultural Resources team in Louisville, KY. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for leading heritage and cultural resource projects, directing field teams on archaeological surveys and excavations, and assisting with the development and scoping of medium-sized projects.
Key Responsibilities- Lead heritage and cultural resource projects, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Direct field teams on archaeological surveys and excavations, utilizing expertise in the archaeology of the Midwest and Southeast regions.
- Assist with the development and scoping of medium-sized projects, collaborating with clients, landowners, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
- Interact with clients, landowners, contractors, and others, providing professional archaeological work and conducting investigations, inspections, studies, and surveys.
- Prepare and assist with completing cultural resources reports, data entry, impact assessment, and permitting activities for assigned projects.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs, exercising responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct.
- Master's Degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, historic preservation, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of relevant post-education experience in the context of Section 106/110 compliance.
- 3-5 years of experience in CRM archaeology, preferably in the Midwest and Southeast.
- Thorough understanding of regulatory framework for heritage resource management compliance.
- Excellent technical writing skills and expertise in the archaeology of the Midwest and Southeast regions.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members.
- Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with a proven track record of upholding workplace safety and adhering to WSP's health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
