KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform precise water-tight welds on galvanized and stainless steel using MIG welding techniques.
  • Ensure the accuracy of your work while maintaining a consistent work pace, adhering to safety protocols and scheduled breaks to minimize production downtime.
  • Actively contribute to enhancing safety performance and addressing any identified safety concerns within your work area and the facility.
  • Support the achievement of departmental safety, quality, and productivity objectives, including but not limited to near-miss reporting and safety metrics.
  • Be prepared to undertake additional tasks as directed or assigned.

POSITION CONTEXT

This Mechanic 2 Sheet Metal Welder will report to the Station Leader or Team Leader of the Sheet Metal Department, or to a more senior Mechanic as designated by the Supervisor.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Successfully complete visual and bend tests on 1⁄2" plate and below.
  • Ability to read measuring instruments, such as tape measures.
  • Proficient in interpreting various BAC fabrication documents related to welding and fabrication.
  • Understand basic welding symbols and engineering drawings.
  • Utilize simple mathematics and basic handheld measuring tools effectively.
  • Identify different welding wires and gases for appropriate applications.
  • Demonstrate awareness of welding hazards and implement necessary safety precautions.
  • Skilled in welding multiple components and parts together.
  • Proficient in MIG welding processes and equipment.
  • Interpret fabrication sheets and manage parts and sub-assemblies in the correct sequence for subsequent operations.
  • Ability to comprehend and respond to job schedules efficiently.
  • Respond to downstream customers with an appropriate level of urgency.
  • Adapt to changes in the work environment.
  • Exhibit strong communication skills and maintain professionalism in interactions with colleagues.
  • Implement and sustain 5S methodology.
  • Understand and adhere to LEAN principles within the workspace.
