The Medical Assistant in Orthopedic Care at MidMichigan Health assists the physician and other staff in the efficient operation of the office. The Medical Assistant provides direct patient care services, including routine vital signs and gathering pertinent medical history. The Medical Assistant educates and prepares patients for office procedures and assists the doctor in the collection and preparation of specimens. The Medical Assistant collects informed consent forms and prepares surgical packets under the direct supervision of the physician. As directed by the physician, the Medical Assistant administers injections and notifies patients of test results and the recommended plan of care.

Responsibilities
  • Medical Assistant national certificate required within 30 months or current State of Michigan Registry document or successful completion of the State of Michigan approved Certified Nurse Aide Training Program and eligibility to take the State of Michigan Certified Nurse Aide examination within four months of hire.
  • Medical Assistant certification must be a national certification issued and maintained by the AAMA, AMT, NHA, NAHP, or NCCT.
  • Current BCLS required.
  • Knowledge of triage parameters preferred.
  • Operating knowledge of basic business machines, including computers.
  • General filing knowledge and ability to operate basic office machines.
  • Able to handle money, patient bills, and perform simple mathematical equations.
  • Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables when only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to recognize potential problems and report items to the office coordinator or physician.
  • Must have the ability to work independently and organize several projects.
  • Able to remember multiple messages, information, and task assignments for up to an assigned shift.
  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the day.
  • Must be able to speak the English language in an understandable manner.
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Must be able to see and hear, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be met.
  • Able to transfer up to 125 pounds, with assistance, while lifting, positioning, and transferring patients.
  • Must keep patients safe.
