Position Overview:
The Medical College of Wisconsin, specifically the Department of Surgery within the Division of Transplant Surgery, is in search of a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to enhance the Transplant ICU Solid Organ Transplant services.
This division is dedicated to abdominal organ transplantation and also offers vascular access and general surgical services for individuals facing end-stage organ failure.The primary objectives of the division include delivering cutting-edge transplant-related services, engaging in laboratory and clinical research, and providing education to residents and students.
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will be an integral part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team, contributing to excellence in program management, patient care, safety, research, quality enhancement, and education.
The Ideal Candidate is someone eager to start or advance their career in a critical care environment and is enthusiastic about being part of a dynamic and collaborative academic practice.
Key responsibilities will encompass, but are not limited to, delivering direct patient care in both inpatient and operating room settings.
In this position, you will:
Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to diagnose and treat conditions necessitating Transplant Surgery intervention in an inpatient setting as a member of the Transplant ICU Service.
Document precise and timely progress notes, procedure notes, and/or admission and transfer orders. Order, conduct, and interpret screening and diagnostic tests, ensuring effective communication and documentation of findings. Be authorized to perform advanced procedures as designated by the Transplant Surgery services. Facilitate communication with patients, families, and staff to ensure continuity of care throughout the treatment process. Attend mandatory training sessions and fulfill key regulatory obligations, including those set by the privileging institution, CMS, and the Joint Commission.Assess quality outcomes for patients under the care of this team by participating in the formulation of quality indicators and outcomes dashboards.
Stay informed about the latest developments and trends in the Physician Assistant and Nurse Practitioner fields through educational programs, in-services, professional associations, and current literature.
Participate in rounds with the attending team and present comprehensive patient reports. Perform minor suturing, manage complex wounds, and handle line and tube placements and removals.
